Welcome to our
Continuing Care page.

At me&dee, we understand that when a family receives a life-limiting diagnosis, everything changes in an instant. The days that follow can be filled with fear and uncertainty but also love, resilience, and moments of connection. That’s why our Continuing Care Programme exists: to ensure that no family faces those moments alone.

Continuing Care has become a vital activity for so many of the me&dee families. When one person in a family is extremely ill, facing such challenges that a family cannot take part in activities all together, me&dee carefully arrange experiences to make this possible, bringing a whole family together and offering peer support with other families facing the same or similar challenges.

Peer Support

By bringing together families with shared experiences, we offer a safe and supportive environment for open conversations and connections. Whether it’s sharing advice, providing emotional support or simply offering a listening ear, our peer support platform allows families to connect in a meaningful way.

Splash Club

As part of the charity’s care and peer support programme we are now holding exclusive sessions at Moorways Sports Village and Water Park in Derby. Children can enjoy an hour’s session in the leisure centre’s water park and sensory pool, enjoying free from stares its full range of slides, atmospherically lit pool, and fountains. This is then followed by a boxed snack for the children with tea and coffee for the adults.

These sessions offer more than just a recreational activity; they provide a lifeline of support, helping families build connections, create joyful memories, and experience moments of relief from their daily struggles.

We love splash club. We feel completely at ease and relaxed whilst we are there. The children love seeing their friends and it’s amazing to see how their confidence has grown”.

Girls Club

Our mission is to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment where girls who have faced challenges can come together, free from expectations, and experience the joys of girlhood. Through our ‘Girl’s Club,’ we strive to build lasting friendships and memorable experiences that empower the participants. The sessions are designed to be female-led and foster a sense of belonging and camaraderie among the girls.

Many of the girls, aged 11-13, had endured invasive medical procedures that can be both physically and emotionally taxing, leaving them with lasting impacts on their mental and emotional well-being. These procedures often necessitate frequent hospital visits, long recovery times, and significant disruptions to their normal lives.

Girls club is fantastic and has helped my daughter have a wonderful experiences that she would of otherwise would not have been able to have. It has allowed her to make friends facing the same circumstances’, which has been invaluable“.

Boys Club

The Boys Club represents our newest and most impactful continuing care experience, providing essential support to boys who face high medical needs, often associated with muscle-wasting conditions and reliance on large wheelchairs.

The significance of the Boys Club extends beyond just recreational activities; it serves as a vital space for these boys to build connections, foster friendships, and experience a sense of normalcy amidst their challenging health conditions.

me&dee has become very close to our heart & we’d just like to thank everyone involved at me&dee for giving Reggie and his family so many special memories that we will never forget, thank you very much”.

How can you help?

£10 Monthly Gift

A monthly donation of £10 ensures we can provide gift cards for food and drink stops for parents with children on long-term hospital stays. So often, parents survive on dishwater
tea and coffee, whilst going through one of the most difficult periods of their lives. Could you imagine just wanting one quality cup of tea when facing the unimaginable?

£20 Monthly Gift

£20 a month allows us to gift families memory-making keepsake activities such as pottery painting, decorative mementos and personalised art pieces that they can treasure forever and look back on fondly, providing small moments of joy. Could you imagine holding onto the last thing your child has ever made?

£50 Monthly Gift

£50 ensures we can organise peer support experiences which are fundamental to the emotional wellbeing of children facing an uncertain future. We’ve been able to connect teenage girls with terminal diagnoses to experience brief moments of normality. Could you imagine experiencing a life-changing diagnosis with no one to connect to?

£100 Monthly Gift

£100 equips us to organise experiences for a whole family, providing wraparound care for everyone affected because the impacts of terminal illness do not stop at the diagnosed. We’ve supported mothers in experiencing their last ever day out with their children. Could you imagine the last moments you’re able to share together as a whole family?

£200 Monthly Gift

£200 ensures we can facilitate meaningful group experiences and peer support, connecting families with others that have a shared journey and understand what it means to live with such uncertainty and a lack of understanding from the rest of the world.
